Winter at Eagle Creek Ranch is a very special time of
year. Those seeking seclusion will find a remote haven,
ideal for quiet reflection by a warm fire, or a contemplative
walk in the icy wilderness with the wind as your only
companion. Snow is common in our valley in most winters,
quieting the babbling of the streams to a murmer, and
brightening the landscape. The Alps offer bountiful opportunities
for cross country skiers and snowshoers from December
until the spring thaw hits the high country. In fact,
enthusiasts can often find excellent skiing beginning
right on Eagle Creek Ranch property!
The following shots were taken in
the middle of a heavy storm just before Christmas
('02). We were the recipients of several feet of
snow during the winter of '02/'03, getting unusual
winter storms as late as early April.
The Best of
Winter at the Ranch
Cross-country Skiing
Every year, Telemark skiers delight in the miles of backcountry trails accessible within a short drive of the ranch.
Snowshoeing
Snowshoers will find almost unlimited opportunities for quiet exploration in snow-blanketed alps.
Solitude
Nearby Coffee Creek and Trinity Center host poulations of a couple hundred each in the summer time. In the winter, these populations shrink to almost half that size as seasonal residents leave for warmer climates. Visitors who come at this time of year enjoy a winter wilderness as remote as exists in California.
