Springtime at Eagle Creek Ranch
Seasons:    Spring   |  Summer  |  Fall  |  Winter
Summer brings extra-long days, warm weather, and bountiful wildlife. The water in the lake warms up to swimming temp, and the snow melts off the trails, opening up
a slew of recreational activies for serious outdoor enthusiasts, and casual family fun-seekers alike. It's our busiest season of the year for good reason.

The Best of Summer at the Ranch
Hiking
The hiking season begins in early summer as the snow retreats far enough to open the high country trails. Wildflower blooms travel up the mountains over the course of the summer, extending spring as long as August for hikers. High flows on rivers and streams add to the backcountry experience in the spring.
Horseback Treks
Most trails that are open to hikers are also open to the backcountry horsemen who enjoy the rugged wilderness and cornucopia of trails offered by the Alps.
Waterskiing
The water in Trinity Lake heats up as June progresses, becoming bearable by the beginning of summer, and downright pleasant in July. 26 square miles of surface area, combined with 145 miles of shoreline allow plenty of room to ski for the few lucky visitors who come to the lake each summer.
Swimming
The lake is warm all summer, but many of our guests opt to simply enjoy a swimming hole in the Trinity River, which flows right through the middle of the ranch.
Gold Panning
The Trinity River was a productive gold producer during the late 19th century and well into the 20th. Several miners still work claims on the river immediately adjacent to our property, finding enough gold to make the pursuit worthwhile. We'll be happy to set you up with an experience miner, who can show you how, or you can use the few tips in our guest book to learn on your own. The summer is the best time to pan, as the lower flows allow prospectors to harvest the gold brought out of the mountains by the spring snow melt. We provide several pans with which to seek your fortune in both rentals.
Good luck!!
Rafting
Rafting continues to be a popular pursuit well into the summer. Streams above the lake settle down enough for unguided family recreation, while regular dam releases create class III rapids for guided trips on the Lower Trinity.
Boating
15 minutes from the ranch, boat rentals on Trinity Lake include everything from patio boats and ski boats, to canoes and kayaks. 45 minutes further, the smaller and colder Lewiston Lake has patio boats open-topped aluminum fishing boats. A day on either lake may include deer, eagles, osprey, herons, or fishing. Trinity's warmer waters and lack of speed limits allow for swimming and waterskiing.
Starfilled Nightime Skies
The elevation, arid conditions and remoteness from light polution make the Trinity Alps one of the prime spots for star-gazers in California. Plan your visit for a new moon, and bring your telescope!
