Springtime at Eagle Creek Ranch
Seasons:    Spring   |  Summer  |  Fall  |  Winter
In springtime, the ranch explodes in color, as the snow retreats into the high country, and the wildflowers come out of hibernation. As the flowers paint their tapestry, the animals, too, come out of hiding, and the whole area teems with life. Linda refuses to leave the ranch during these months, as she considers them to be the most beautiful of the year.

The Best of Spring at the Ranch
Bass and Trout Fishing

The best bass fishing of the year on Trinity Lake takes place between the middle of March and the middle of June, as the fish go through their annual spawning cycle. Largemouth to 14 lbs, and Smallmouth to 9 lbs can be taken from Trinity Lake.

Fishing for rainbows and browns is also excellent in the spring, with fish to 10 and 12 lbs not out of the question.

Birding
Every birder knows that spring is when “it” happens. After a long winter the migrating birds begin moving through the area. Everyday brings a new traveler. The resident Black Phoebes return to their nesting sites on the far side of Gussie’s. The Stellar Jays begin their nests at Lester’s making a “twig mess” of the front porch. The orioles in particular seem to like nesting at the Ranch and engage in colorful mating rituals over the fields. Even the pond becomes a seasonal drama to see who will come and stay for the upcoming summer.
Rafting
When the rivers swell with the spring snowmelt, rafting becomes a thrill-ride for adventure seekers. Depending on conditions, some streams may be enjoyed by casual rafters or expert rafters. Guided adventures over class III and IV rapids are available on the Lower Trinity within an hour's drive.
Wildflowers
With the excitement of spring comes the subtle green “leaf out”. The 100 year plus orchard, in particular, is a perfect painter’s still life. In June of 2005 a rare Mountain Lady Slipper was found on the ranch. Botanists have marveled at the Blue Eyed Mary's, also a rare find, blanketing the big pasture and the large Jeffrey’s Shooting Stars which cover the hidden meadow on the far side of the river. Seep Spring Monkey Flower has a strong hold along the banks of the Trinity and the red bud and dogwood punctuate the forest.
